This talk will highlight a case study tracking unreliable state-backed media narratives from Russia, across millions of posts and users on social media, using graph databases and machine learning technologies deployed in the cloud for the Sunday Times, UK. It will describe the motivations, methods, and results of our work with non-profits, building open-access responsible AI tools for the social internet supported by grants from the NYC Media Lab, Wikimedia Foundation, and Google Cloud. In particular, it will provide a discussion of AI tools for online transparency and accountability and share how to use social data to develop a cyber intelligence strategy against disinformation operations by domestic and foreign adversaries.
